You'll Really Dig The Crater of Diamonds State Park!
Over 70,000 diamonds have been unearthed at the site of Arkansas' Crater
of Diamonds State Park since John Huddleston found the first diamonds on
his farm here in 1906. Today, the park is the world's only
publicly-operated diamond site where visitors are allowed to dig for
diamonds and other gemstones and keep any they find, regardless of
value. The diamond searching area is a large plowed field, the eroded
surface of an ancient, gem-bearing volcanic pipe. Crater of Diamonds
State Park is located southeast of Murfreesboro (870) 285-3113. There's
a campground and restaurant at the park, plus geologists to verify your
finds. A 1.3-mile trail offers a scenic trek to the Little Missouri
River.
