Driving Tour Four

Map of Driving Tour 4 Head west on Hwy. 270 through tall timber and past Lake Ouachita to Mount Ida, the Quartz Capital of the World. Stop in at one of the many rock shops or crystal mines. Along this drive are several side trips to fine resorts and picnic areas, including a scenic drive to the top of Hickory Nut Mountain for a panoramic view of Lake Ouachita. At the junction of Hwy. 270 and Hwy. 27, head south to Norman. This is the northern gateway to the Little Missouri Falls, Albert Pike Recreation Area, and Winding Stairs. At Caddo Gap, there's a bronze statue of a Native American mounted on a tall pedestal of native stone, marking the westernmost point reached by DeSoto. Hwy. 27 takes you into Glenwood. For more information, visit the Mount Ida Chamber of Commerce or call (870) 867-2723.
