Clark County - Two Rivers Country
Two Places To Learn
Arkadelphia is the home of two outstanding universities: Henderson State
(870) 230-5000 and Ouachita Baptist (870) 245-5000. From sporting events
to theater and concerts to lectures, there is always something happening
on the campuses of Arkadelphia. For the sportsman, Arkadelphia has an
abundance of outstanding facilities including a health club,
state-of-the-art bowling alley, nationally-recognized jogging and biking
trails, and one of the state's finest indoor tennis facilities. And for
the shopper in the family, come stroll our revitalized main street
district with its quaint boutiques and eateries!
A Tale Of Two Rivers
Clark County is home to two rivers with distinctly different flows. The
Caddo emerges from DeGray Dam and offers a short but picturesque float.
This clear, cool stream boasts exceptional scenic beauty along its
winding path to the Ouachita. The Ouachita, in contrast, is a fairly
wide river with a steady flow through Clark County. Both
rivers offer an enjoyable outing for the sport fisherman (especially if
you like the challenge of smallmouth bass) and the float enthusiast.
Canoe and tube rentals are available in Caddo Valley, just off
Interstate 30 and Scenic 7 Byway.
Two Reasons For A Party
The Festival of Two Rivers in Arkadelphia each April has canoe races,
music, arts and crafts, and other family events. Gurdon celebrates its
lumber history the last Saturday in October with a Forest Festival
featuring over 100 craft booths, an antique car show, and contests of
forestry skills.
Rich in history and antiques, Clark County has over 20 sites listed
on the National Register of Historic Places. See the restored downtown
area of Arkadelphia, including our stately courthouse. Historic Driving
Tour brochures are available at the Arkadelphia Chamber of Commerce
(870) 246-5542. Crafts and antiques are plentiful throughout the Two
Rivers Country area. Arkadelphia and Caddo Valley each offer many places
to search for hidden treasures offered in our unique shops.
DeGray Is Great For Play
DeGray Lake was created in 1972 with the damming of the Caddo River. The
lake has 13,800 surface acres of water and 207 miles of shoreline.
DeGray Lake, under U.S. Corps of Engineers management, is renowned for
its fishing (largemouth bass, hybrids, and other game fish species), and
it is well served by two popular resorts. Iron Mountain Lodge and Marina
has the only fully-equipped lakeside cottages and its own full-service
marina featuring ski boats, party barges, small fishing boats and
houseboats. DeGray Lake Resort State Park has a 96-room lakeside lodge
and convention center, restaurant, marina, and a full complement of other
facilities that includes a scenic 18-hole championship public golf
course. Better Homes and Gardens magazine has included DeGray in its
"Top 30 Family Resorts in the United States."
